Origin

Bourgogne wines form the foundation of Burgundy’s appellation hierarchy and are produced under the broad Bourgogne appellation. These wines may be sourced from vineyards across the wider Burgundy region, including Chablis, the Côte d’Or, the Côte Chalonnaise and the Mâconnais. In the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, Bourgogne vineyards are most commonly located on the lower slopes of the Côte d’Or escarpment or on flatter sites beyond the village and cru-designated vineyards.

While less geographically specific than village or cru appellations, Bourgogne wines offer a clear introduction to the region’s signature grape varieties, predominantly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with Aligoté also featuring. Crafted to highlight freshness, delicacy and approachability, these wines reflect Burgundy’s cool climate and limestone-rich soils, providing an authentic and accessible entry point into the diverse and nuanced world of Burgundy.

About Marchand & Burch Bourgogne Aligoté

Often overlooked in favour of Chardonnay, Aligoté is one of Burgundy’s historic white varieties and is increasingly recognised for its vibrancy, texture and expressive link to place. Sourced from old vines in Puligny-Montrachet, this Bourgogne Aligoté reflects the nobility of a variety that has thrived quietly for centuries within one of the world’s most revered white wine landscapes. Grown on steep slopes of sandy marl and limestone, Aligoté here delivers freshness, mineral tension and surprising depth, making it both highly versatile and distinctly Burgundian.

Tasting Note

Pascal Marchand has access to two old-vine Aligoté plots that lie curiously within the Chardonnay nirvana of Puligny-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune. The wine crafted from these special vines testifies transparently to the nobility of this re-emerging variety, that has been hiding in plain sight for centuries. Fresh and direct, with clean and present acidity, citrus and almond kernel aromatics, a surprisingly lush texture, saline and mineral undertones and a long finish, the Aligoté elevates food, delights as an aperitif and will continue to satisfy with a few additional years in bottle.
